Life Lab Developing Your NGSS Lessons 4/21/18

Let’s apply the guiding principals of Next Generation Science Standards (NGSS) to make our students the lead scientists in our garden lessons! We will explore strategies and tools for supporting students in constructing explanations, making arguments from evidence, and communicating information.

Life Lab Intro. to Next Generation Science in the Garden 4/20/18

Let's head outside and put earth and life back into Earth and Life Science! Using lessons from Life Lab’s The Growing Classroom activity guide, participants in this workshop learn to use a garden as a meaningful context in which their students can engage in Next Generation Science and Engineering Practices to examine Disciplinary Core Ideas and Cross-Cutting Concepts. Where better to explore ecological interdependence, growth and development of organisms, structure and function, adaptation, and the environmental impact of human activity than in an outdoor garden classroom?

Life Lab Sowing the Seeds of Wonder: Early Childhood Education in the Garden 3/17/18

Spend a day looking at the garden through the eyes of a young child. Using Life Lab's Sowing the Seeds of Wonder activity guide for preschool and kindergarten, participants in this workshop sample activities designed to encourage young children to learn about the world using their senses; practice basic gardening skills with a focus on gardening with young children; discuss safe and age-appropriate garden design; and learn garden art projects and songs for preschoolers.
