GOOD Magazine Garden Design Contest To bring gardens to all schools in all neighborhoods, we need to provide school site teams with innovative, replicable garden designs. If costs, layouts, and materials are clearly shown through good design, it will be easier to fund gardens with support from government, corporate private and foundation partners. The easier we can make the plans for schools and volunteers, the more school gardens will bloom.
Click here for details and requirements. You must submit your design by June 15, 2010.
National Women's History Month California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom shared the importance of garden-based learning and school gardens on Thursday, March 4th at the first ever Day at The Museum. California First Lady Maria Shriver and The Women's Conference partnered with The California Museum in Sacramento to celebrate National Women's History Month with this extraordinary all-day free event. The California Museum had it's most successful day in all of California's history, as close to 10,000 people gathered for a free day of education, inspiration and empowerment. The star-studded event included exhibits, presentations, speeches and tours of the museum.
California Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom provided edible garden demonstrations in the museum's courtyard, as well as a fruit and vegetable art station, seed and California-grown raisin giveaways, and distributing free resources including CSGN postcards and Gardens for Learning Standards Supplement. CSGN's Gardens for Learning hardbound book was also on display at the exhibit.
A number of special guests including environmental activist Erin Brockovich, Iron Chef Cat Cora and the first U.S. female astronaut to enter space, Sally Ride. Click here for information about the event.
