We've been working on our school's garden project for about 2 years and I am amazed at the free and repurposed materials that I've come across. We just finished a pathway made from broken countertop material. Arizona Tile Company donated 2 pallets of broken white granite. We turned it upside down on a base of 1/4 minus gravel, took a sledge hammer to it, spread the pieces and ta duh, stepping stones! The students love sweeping gravel into the cracks and how pretty it looks after it rains. I'll be talking to more companies and contractors about "scrap" donations, so that we can add more pathways. Now that's a deal!
